■About the work
Although it is a common subject, the original canvas can also be seen as a culmination of the artist's work up to 2019.
The light ink used for the dark night at the bottom of the background, the charcoal drawing of the silver grass in the distance, and the gold leaf cut-out silver grass in the foreground are all references to the works of Kyosuke Chinai.
The model is an Italian girl. The hands are in an impossible position, but the balance of the painting took priority over the three-dimensional effect. After this painting, I started to draw kimono shapes and other things in ways that would be impossible in a realistic three-dimensional form, mainly based on Utamaro.
I myself was completely unaware of this, but I later learned that there was a debate on an anonymous internet message board as to which were more sensitive: the girl in the picture's human ears or her rabbit ears.
