■About the work
The motif is Mount Himeyama, on which Himeji Castle, also known as White Heron Castle, is built. The design references irises from the Eight Bridges Screen by Sakai Hoitsu, who was associated with the Sakai family who were also the lords of Himeji Castle, a white heron from Withered Reeds, and cherry blossoms from Cherry Blossoms and Small Birds.
The shikoro (neck guard) on the helmet indicates that Himeji Castle was a samurai fortress, and the collar features a design of sama (gaps through which guns were fired) that can be seen in the walls of Himeji Castle.
