■About the work
This painting is based on the second half of the poem "In the dawnless night, my heart is confused" from "Akashi" in the Tale of Genji. The motif is from the Heian period, but the composition of the painting is taken from Uemura Shoen's "Musume Miyuki" and adapted to a modern kimono figure. The calligraphy was done by the late Saito Yutaka, a scholar and calligrapher of the Tale of Genji.
