Mitate-Marilyn #2/20

■About the work Following a feature article by me in Beautiful Bizarre Magazine, a highly influential art magazine in Europe and the United States, I have been invited to exhibit intermittently in the United States and other countries since 2023, and this work, a painting with an American motif, was created as the first of these invitations.
Marilyn Monroe has been repeatedly featured since Warhol as a motif representative of modern America, so I painted her as a "figurative painting." Marilyn Monroe was a Hollywood actress, but she also symbolized 20th century America not only as an image, but also as a pioneer of female independence, such as by starting her own company in New York to become independent from the film company.
The composition of the painting referenced the very famous pose in the movie "The Seven Year Itch" and Suzuki Harunobu's "Evening Shower." The lines of the kimono and the shape of the hairpin are from Utamaro.
The deformation of the human body is based on the balance of the Taisho period Japanese painter Kainosho Kusunoki, who draws the figures in traditional Japanese clothing, so that the shape of the human body can be clearly seen.

The striped pattern on the kimono is a "bundled noshi"
"Noshi" has been a symbol of gift-giving in Japan for over 1000 years, originally consisting of thin slices of seashell.
Kimono with a noshi pattern on it represent good fortune.
By superimposing a woman in a kimono blown by the wind, wearing a symbol of good fortune, with Marilyn Monroe, I was able to depict the human dignity that each woman possesses.
