■About the work
The plum blossom and white-eye are references to the "Vine Plum, Imitation Eye, White Maki-e Scroll Tray" (Edo-Tokyo Museum, Tokyo), created by Sakai Hoitsu, a genius Edo period lacquer artist who, along with Hara Yoyusai, is one of the leading figures of the Edo Rinpa school.
Since the white-eye is an autumn seasonal word, I chose the September chrysanthemum motif for the kimono from Sakai Hōitsu's Twelve Months of Flowers and Birds.
